Tomorrow's adults are today's learners, and we need them to be creative problem-solvers who are willing to take risks and try new things. We will use the MinecraftEDU game platform to solve problems and learn new skills by trial and error and FUN. Beginners welcome! LAPTOP (NOT iPad or Chromebook) REQUIRED

Designing Custom Search Engines and Digital Portfolios to Focus Student Research
As the Common Core demands students Research to Build and Present Knowledge, Google will help teachers build a safe platform for this to take place. In this session, teachers will build a custom search engine, allowing students to search only those sites and blogs that the teacher deems appropriate to the topic, then place this search engine on a Google Site shared with the students. Participants will learn to grant each student a web page as a digital portfolio to present knowledge in the form of writings, slides, videos and more. This session is best suited for intermediate users.

Diff’rent Strokes - Inquiry Based Learning Featuring Google Forms and 20% Time
Inquiry is at the core of STEAM learning and leading today. We need to arm our students with daily practice at honoring their curiosities and then give them time to explore. We will be starting the inquiry process with picture books - the simple stuff. From there, you will plan ways to guide students down the paths of inquiry while leveraging 20% Time to make it happen. This session will provide you time to collaborate with other participants as you share and walk through project ideas together.

Every Image Has A Story: Visual Literacy and Digital Storytelling
Students at all ages are getting inundated with visual stimulus; this session will show how you teach visual literacy to your students by getting them to focus on observations and inquiry. From language arts to history and science to art, teachers will see how to create new lessons based around visuals and the types of prompts we can ask. You will learn how to search web, while understanding copyright and fair use and then be able to teach your students appropriate use as well. We’ll finish with learning to create your own visual stories

The Sound of the Common Core Classroom
Retire that old boombox and enhance your classroom environment AND your students' learning! Participants will sample radio-style services such as Pandora and Songza, then learn the power of playlists and curation through on-demand music services such as Spotify and Grooveshark. Build playlists for your content area, for your students' interests, for current events, for seasonal moods, and for more efficient (and fun) classroom routines and transitions. Connect with other users to use their playlists. Most importantly, teach your students to curate playlists, make connections to academic content, and go beyond images and slideshows in meeting CCSS multimedia goals.
